Huanghuali, also known as Chinese Rosewood, is a local, protected plant in Hainan Island that is used for making wood furniture and medicine. Guests can learn about the impact of over exploiting Huanghuali. They can also immerse themselves in nature by learning about the plant and getting a hands-on experience of planting Huanghuali saplings.

Join our local guide to clean up plastic rubbish from the beach, followed by a hands-on activity to upcycle your findings (after proper disinfection) into miniature terrariums – helping to curb additional plastic pollution by turning trash into treasure.

Qiandao Lake is a man-made lake in Hangzhou that is known for its beautiful surroundings and water quality. Guests can help maintain and protect the water from pollution by visiting the Qiandao Lake Water Source Protection Base, and learn about how certain fish species can also improve water quality. Guests can also get a first-hand experience of cleaning stock fry cages and releasing fish into the lake. 

More and more farmers in China are cutting back on fertilizer and pesticide use. Guests are invited to the resort’s garden/a local farm to learn more about different types of seeds and vegetables, as well as the harmful effects of chemical fertilizers. Guests will then use the organic fertilizers made from the resort’s food waste and coffee grounds to plant local vegetables.

Almost 90% of the floating trash found in China’s surface water is plastic. To help ease the impact of ocean-bound plastic on the local environment, guests will be invited to participate in a beach cleanup followed by a workshop to reuse the plastic bottles they picked up.

The lake of Huizhou serves as a key nesting ground for the Chinese egret. Sadly, it is now under threat from pollution, causing a decrease in the egret population as their food supply dwindles. Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand rescues thousands of animals every year from poor conditions. Embark on a kayaking exploration tour along the riverside at The St. Regis Yalong Bay Resort. Led by our recreation staff, guests will help clean rubbish and plant trees along the river, preserving the local area’s natural beauty for years to come.  

Plogging is an eco-friendly fitness activity that combines jogging with picking up trash. In partnership with ‘On,’ an athletic shoe and performance sportswear brand from Switzerland, join us in keeping our communities clean while going on a scenic jog overlooking Tokyo Bay, Mount Fuji, and Tokyo Skytree Tower.

Every year, there is an estimated 92 million tons of textile waste generated globally, with many items unnecessarily ending up in landfills instead of being recycled. Help reduce textile waste and build a circular economy by repurposing old linens into new, useable items at our workshop, run in partnership with social enterprise Kloth Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

Due to increasingly intense and unpredictable weather events, there is a need to promote awareness around more sustainable farming practices in Fiji. Join our Farm Manager on a guided tour through the Sheraton Denarau Farm, a 5-acre organic oasis of fresh Fijian produce, to learn about more sustainable farming practices such as hydroponics and ‘no-till’ farming.  

Guests also have the opportunity to plant Hawaiian Pawpaw (papaya) tree saplings in support of the hotel’s collaboration with the Mamanuca Environment Society (MES) to plant 3,000 native and fruit trees annually.
